International Mathematics Olympiad or IMO is a competitive exam conducted annually by Science Olympiad Foundation with the aim of inculcating mathematical skills among the students. IMO is considered one of the best exams to help students build a great mathematical acumen for their higher studies.

IMO class 11 consists of a total of 50 questions of a total of 60 marks divided into 4 sections as explained below:

  • Logical Reasoning – This section judges the logical and mental ability among students and tests their analytical and general intellectual skills through Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
  • Mathematical Reasoning - This section tests the understanding of mathematical concepts and calculative powers of the students. The questions of this section can be calculative and time consuming.
  • Everyday Mathematics – the section challenges the candidate’s thinking ability with questions of amalgamation of everyday situations and general management.
  • Achiever’s section – This section tests the students with questions from a variety of different concepts. This section makes a lot of difference in the rankings, as it contains 5 questions of more weightage and advanced level that requires higher order thinking skills.

SYLLABUS FOR IMO FOR CLASS 11:

Section – 1 : Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Section – 2 : Sets, Relations and Functions, Principle of Mathematical Induction, Logarithms, Complex Numbers & Quadratic Equations, Linear Inequations, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Straight Lines, Conic Sections, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Statistics, Mathematical Reasoning, Limits and Derivatives, Probability, Introduction to 3-D Geometry.

Section – 3 : The syllabus of this section will be based on the syllabus of Mathematical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.

Section – 4 : Higher Order Thinking Questions - Syllabus as per Section – 2.
